German KU Report
Shot down by:
Pilot: Lt Kurt Ibing
Unit: Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1/4)
Aircraft: Focke-Wulf (Fw 190A-6)

Listed as KIA in MACR 286. NARA lists him as FOD. I was given this explanation: "The FOD is a term meaning "Finding of Death". The body was never found and after a year and a day the government declared the soldier dead. Therefore he is not listed in any cemetery nor is he listed on the wall of the missing."

UPDATE: Some of you know that I have searched high and low for Frank's body. I've studied military records and searched internationally. I was very dismayed to learn that his name was not to be found on any memorials because his body was not recovered. I have added his name to electronic memorials.

Bless my stars, Harriet Foster located what is thought to be Frank's cenotaph! He does have a memorial! Bless the volunteers Dan & Karen Read who had created a memorial and photographed the headstone. I was searching so far and wide and there it was! Research is still ongoing. I'm so thankful to Find A Grave volunteers!
