Sadly, there is little to tell about Amelia. Although she was born in 1889 in Minnesota, there was no mention of her in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census. It is not known where she lived at the time; although there's always the possibility that she was living with and working as a servant for another family.
At the age of 16, Amelia married (1) Walter E. Tollefson on 11 May 1905 in Redwood County, Minnesota. Walter E. and Amelia (Schauer) Tollefson had a son named Harold Tollefson. Harold was born in 1906 in Redwood County, Minnesota. The only mention of him was in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, which indicated that Harold was about six years old and was living with his grandparents, Emilie and Charles Schauer.
At the time of her Father's death in 1918, Amelia was married to (2) George DePere. The date and place of her wedding are not known. Charles Schauer's obituary simply mentioned that Amelia was married to George DePere and that they were living in Ayer, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
By the time her Mother died, in 1930, Amelia (Schauer) (Tollefson) DePere had married (3) Frank Heber Chase. Frank was born on 09 June 1889 in West Dennis, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Emilie Schauer's obituary stated that her daughter, Amelia, and her (third) husband, Frank Chase, were living in Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon. The 1940 U.S. Federal Census showed that Frank Heber and Amelia (Schauer) (Tollefson) (DePere) Chase were living in Beaverton, Washington County, Oregon.
On 27 April 1942, at the age of 52, Frank Heber Chase registered for the draft. His draft Registration Card showed that he was living in Portland, Oregon, and was employed by Willamette Iron and Steel Company in Portland. Frank registered in the WW II Fourth Registration, which was called the "Old Man's Draft," due to the fact that it registered men who were 45 to 64 years old at the time of the registration. A copy of Frank's draft Registration Card is attached to this memorial.
At the time of this writing, the "hunt" to locate the graves of Amelia (Schauer) and Frank Heber Chase continues. It is believed that they are buried in Oregon.
