A death notice was published in The Burlington Free Press (Burlington, Vermont) on January 11, 1902. A brief obituary was published in the same paper on May 31, 1902:"Born in Barnard, Vt in 1844. Entered the service from Rutland, Vt., as corporal in Company H, Fourteenth Vermont volunteers, September 10, 1862; mustered out July 10, 1863; was by occupation a painter. Joined Stannard Post April 12, 1889. Died at Cambridge, Mass., of heart disease, January 8, 1892 and was buried at Chester, Vt."
Charles appears on the 1890 US Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War, in Burlington, Vermont. That document states he was a Private.
