Simon Harcourt, 1st Viscount Harcourt in 1727.
He was the 1st Earl Harcourt, of Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire and Viceroy of Ireland from 1772 to 1777. He was also known as the 2nd Viscount Harcourt, of Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire. He was a Col. in the army in 1745 during the Jacobite Rebellion. In 1749 he was made Earl Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt. He was appointed governor to the prince of Wales, [who later became King George III]. He held a number of court and diplomatic appointments.
All Harcourts are related to the Norman French Harcourts dating back to the 900s. Many of the Norman French Harcourts came to England during and after the 1066 French invasion led by William the Conqueror.
