On August 14, 1915 at her parent's home in Reading, Michigan, Jim married Ethel Mae Cowell. Jim helped survey Coalinga, California. At one time he owned a garage in Reading. He went to work for Associated Oil. He was transferred to the job of driving a car over the pipeline routes through the valley and on the harbor. He became a stationary engineer for the Socony Vacuum Oil Company. He spent most of his working life in the oil fields, pipeline division, in Texas. He was in Schulenberg, Texas for fifteen years. When he retired he moved to Sutherlin, Oregon. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge in Coalinga, California and received fifty year Masonic honors from this lodge. Jim belonged to the Fair Oaks Grange in Sutherlin and was active in the Christian Science Church.
Jim and Ethel had children: Bruce, Owen and Geneva Jane.
