Obituary Death of Mrs. Sarah (Rupp) Gibons From Bureau County Republican - January 25, 1883 Died January 17, 1883 Mrs. Gibons was a native of Pennsylvania born January 16, 1807. She was joined in marriage February 20, 1828. She was the mother of fifteen children a number of whom died in infancy six still live, four sons and two daughters to mourn her loss. Mrs. Gibons removed to Princeton, Illinois in 1860 where she lived almost 17 years after which she removed to Gainsville, Texas with her daughter Mrs. C.N. Stevens when her health begain [stet] to fail she returned to Peoria, Illinois making her home with her daughter Mrs. William J. Dobbins where she remained to January 17, 1883 where after an illness sof three days, she fell asleep to awake in the presense [stet] and likeness of her lord and savior. At her request her remains were brought by the family to Princeton to be interned at the Oakland cemetery, and after religious services at the house of her son, R.R. Gibons her body was laid to rest to await the resurrection of the just. It is not to much to say of Mrs. Gibons that she was "a clean keeper at home" was never known to be a busy body in other peoples matters, seemed to have charity for all and malice toward none ruled in her own home with tenderness and love s bound the hearts of her children to her in indimmissable [stet] affection in the social circle she was a favorite with both old and young - none knew her but to love her. Mrs. Gibons united with the Reformed German Church when 12 years of age and so maintained her character and standing that she was after more than thirty years affectionly [stet] dismissed and recommended to the First Presbyterion [stet] Church of Princeton Illinois and after 17 years she was again dismissed to unite with the Presbyterian Church of Gainsville, Texas where she did what she could to build up a church of Christ on the frontier. As a Christian she was quiet, retiring and modest almost to a fault, yet she was devoted to her church, faithful in the discharge of her obligations. Thus has passed from earth the beautiful life of Mrs. Sarah Gibons at the ripe age of 76 years, leaving us the rich inheritance of a pure and noble character. She died as she lived in the faith of the gospel and is doubtless at rest in the mansion prepared for her.
