Mrs. Barnett was born and reared in Athens, Georgia, a 6th generation Athenian. She was the daughter of the late Bolling Stovall DuBose and Minnie Thomas DuBose. After graduating from the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, she worked at the University for a short time. In 1945 Mrs. Barnett married her late husband, Austin Hill Barnett, Jr., from Washington, Georgia, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. After living in numerous states and Canada with her husband during his Naval career, in 1959 the Barnetts made Fort Valley their home.
Mrs. Barnett was a life-long Presbyterian and was active in the Fort Valley Presbyterian Church, the Study Club, several bridge clubs, and involved with community endeavors.
In addition to her late husband, who died in 1998, Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her son, Austin Hill Barnett, III. Survivors include one daughter, Katherine B. Hollinshead and her husband, William, of Gainesville, GA; one son, Thomas D. Barnett, and his wife, Cecilia, of Matthews, NC; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law, Robert C. Barnett and his wife, Mary, of Aiken, SC.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia, with Rev. Richard A. Evans officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Thornwell Home and School for Children, 302 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325-9972.
