Mrs. Maybelle Horton Petty, 83, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at Durham Regional Hospital. Mrs. Petty was born and raised in Harnett County, daughter of the late Ed and Betty Horton. She moved to Durham with her husband, Chapin Petty, in 1942 and has called it her home since. Mrs. Petty was the manager of the Merita Bakery Thrift Store for many years. She was a kind, loving, spirited person with lots of love for everyone she came into contact with. Her greatest joy came from her family whom she loved most of all. Her husband preceded her in death in 1979.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Petty Schaible, of Durham; sons, Gary Petty and his wife, Sue, of Creedmoor, Phillip Petty and his wife, Kathy, of Creedmoor; grandchildren, Bruce Warren, Angie Khan, Stacy Chambers, Chris Petty and Jason Petty; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Brandon, Abee, Alyssa, Isaiah, Michael, Mariam, Nailah, and Chase.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2005, at Howerton Bryan Chapel. The Rev. Johnny Godair will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howerton Bryan Funeral Home.
