Our thoughts, prayers and memories are with Marjorie Ruth Shoemaker, beloved wife and mother, caring daughter, sister, aunt and friend, who passed away May 25, 2013, after a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born Oct. 6, 1938, to Carrol Byron and Essie Casstevens Herman, in Charleston, Ill.

Excelling in scholastics, first in a one-room schoolhouse on through high school, she graduated from Charleston High School with honors in 1956. Mom met our father, Stanley Shoemaker, while in high school, where he courted her until the two wed Dec. 28, 1957, three days after his 19th birthday.

Mom and Dad continued to reside in the Charleston/Mattoon area and welcomed four kids, one son and three daughters, until health concerns for her and certain kids forced them to move to Las Vegas, April 1968.

While employed for the State of Nevada Mental Retardation Center, she worked with a man living in Boulder City. Mom and Dad were enchanted with the small town atmosphere for arising kids and relocated to Boulder City, November 1972, still residing there in 2013.

Our mother worked most of her life, loving her work while making many wonderful friends. She worked many years for the State of Nevada, lastly as executive legislative secretary for the Community College of Southern Nevada, until she was forced to retire after her diagnosis of MS in 1984.

Marjorie Ruth Shoemaker was preceded in death by her parents; younger brother, Jerry; and youngest daughter, Billie Jean. She is survived lovingly by her husband, Stan; son, Gary; daughters, Dolores and her husband, Brian Hardt, and Carolyn and mate, Joey; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; brother, Jim and his kids, mark, Tammy and Teresa and their families; our aunts, Linda Myers and Nhu-y Herman; extended family daughters, Ginger Moore and family, Leda Fornasir and sons, Jesse and Jonah, and Mom's lifelong friend, Kay Shonkwiler and her family.

Special thanks to the caregivers of Home Health of Boulder City of their kindness, Sue Record, Sandy Peterson, Sandy Lorina, and all the others. She loved all of us. "Mom, your soul is free, free from pain now, free from sorrow. Your song on Earth is over. How we all loved it while you played it! We will always love you and hold you in our hearts, forever!"

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 30. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, both at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial to follow at Boulder City Cemetery, 501 Adams Blvd.
