Therase Allen ~ She valued education
Therase Lundquist Allen, 99, a former resident of Scandia, currently of Mount Vernon, died Jan. 31, at Mira Vista Care Center. Shew was born June 12, 1902, in Scandia to the late Andrew and Hannah Lundquist. As a girl, Mrs. Allen traveled by the steam vessel Hyak to attend Broadway High School in Seattle. Later, she attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, where she graduated in 1921. She then attended the College of Puget Sound of Tacoma and did her graduate work at the University of Washington. Mrs. Allen taught eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse on Fox Island before becoming principal at Pearson Grade School on Liberty Bay. She was also principal at Bainbridge Island at Winslow. In 9142, she married Marshall Allen in Seattle. The couple made their home in Tacoma where she taught remedial reading for the school system. She retired from education in 1967. Her interests were primarily centered on the welfare of her numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors include her brother, Homer Lundquist, of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; seven brothers; and two sisters.
