Prior to being married Isaac served as a Corporal in Company F, 6th Delaware Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He enlisted on November 15, 1862 in Smyrna, Delaware for a 9 month term. He was noted as having a light complexion, dark eyes, and black hair. He was mustered out on August 22, 1863 as was the entire 6th Delaware Infantry. His brother's John and Benjamin also served with the 6th Delaware.
He was first married to " Sarah Hoffecker " on January 25, 1868 in Delaware. She was born on March 13, 1849 the daughter of John S. Hoffecker and Sarah E "Sallie" ( Simpson ) Hoffecker.
They first show up as a family in the 1870 Federal Census ( recorded: June 15, 1870 ) residing on a farm in Duck Creek Hundreds, southeast of Smyrna, Delaware ( more than likely on Dutch Neck Road ) that is located next to his brother James' farm. On the other side of James' farm is their dad James' farm. ( the farm he grewup on ).
Isaac is noted as a 27 year old " Farmer " and Sarah is noted as a 21 year old " Housekeeper ". They didn't have any children at this time. Also residing on the farm with them in 1870 were " John Foreacres " ( Age 21 ~ farm laborer ), " John Solloway " ( Age 17 ~ farm laborer ), " Gove Pierce " ( Age 18 ~ farm laborer ), " Benjamin Morris " ( Age 11 ~ farm laborer ), " James Jarman " ( Age 11 ~ farm laborer ), " Daniel Morris " ( Age 9 ), " Annie Farrow " ( Age 15 ~ domestic servant ) and " Annie Meyer " ( Age 10 ~ domestic servant ).
In the 1870's the family suffered a " tragedy " ... their son Frank M. Truax who was born on May 19, 1876 passed away at the age of 8 months and 10 days on January 29, 1877. He was interred in the Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna, Delaware.

Isaac is noted as a 39 year old " Farmer " and " Sarah " is noted as a 30 year old " Housekeeper " raising " 3 " of their children: James ( Age 8 ) ~ Robert ( Age 5 ) ~ Lee ( Age 6 months ).
Sadly, most of the " 1890 census " materials were destroyed in a 1921 fire and none of the information for the State's of New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania or Delaware survived the fire.
Prior to what would have been the 1890 Federal Census " tragedy " again struck the family ..... " Two More Times " ..... their son Lee Truax who was born on December 5, 1879 passed away at the age of 7 months and 10 days on July 15, 1880 and he was interred in the Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna, Delaware. And then Sarah ( Hoffecker ) Truax preceded her husband in passing away at the age of 39 years, 10 months, and 5 days on January 18, 1889 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the " Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane " and was interred in the Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna, Delaware. Isaac and Sarah had " 6 " children together.
Isaac, after Sarah's passing, then married " Amanda K. Knotts " on May 9, 1891 in Delaware. She was born on July 23, 1868 the daughter of George W. Knotts and Deborah ( Berry ) Knotts.
