NEWTON - Mrs. Nancy Mullins Dumas, 93, of King Street in Newton, died Sunday evening, January 19, 2003, at her home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, in Newton City Cemetery, with the Reverend David Willis officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.

Visitation will be at her home in Newton, 111 King Street, from 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, until time to depart for the graveside service. The family will receive friends during this time.

Mrs. Dumas was a native of Newton, where she spent most of her life. She attended Newton Junior College and the University of Montevallo where she graduated with a degree in Secretarial Science in 1934. She was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church and served as treasureer and Pianist for a number of years. She was also a member of the Official Board, the Board of Trustees, and the Parsonage Committee. She was employed as a secretary by Preferred Life Assurance Society in Montgomery for four years. In 1942 she returned to Newton and worked as an accountant in the Finance Division at Fort Rucker during World War II. She worked as auditor at the Houston Hotel in Dothan from 1948 until 1972 when the building was sold. She was preceded in death by a son, Walter Samuel Dumas, Jr.

Survivors include two grandchildren, John F. Dumas, Kingwood, Texas, and Julie Dumas Blettner, Dallas, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Blettner and Amanda Blettner, Dallas, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth M. and Lolan Granger, Anniston; two nieces and four nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Newton United Methodist Church.
