Dick was the son of Henry & Mary Windham Theus, who married on 15 Sep 1830 in Crawford Co. GA. then settled in Butler, Taylor Co. GA.

Dick enlisted in the Confederate Army in Georgia on May 10, 1862 as a private in Co. C, 7th Regiment State Troops. This regiment became the 59th Georgia infantry. He surrendered with General Robert E. Lee on April 9, 1865.

There is a Cenotaph Confederate Monument at Cliett Cemetery in Peach Co. GA and a memorial for that monument here.

After Richard and brother Thomas left the Army, they, brother George and a John C. McKeeven lived together and worked on a farm in Jefferson, Marion Co TX.(1870). None of the the four could read or write.
