Ernest G. McCullough, 77, of Westport, passed away at 12:21 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Arbor Grove Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born on May 7, 1936 in Decatur County, the son of James Simon and Mabel (Tanner) McCullough. Mr. McCullough was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and had graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1954. He retired in 1987 from Cummins Engine Company after 31 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Westport Baptist Church and an avid golfer, enjoyed playing basketball and fishing.
He married Esther L. Sullivan in Greensburg on June 2, 1956 and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2003. Survivors include his daughter, Lucy McCullough of Westport; his son, Michael McCullough of Indianapolis; his sisters, Mary Ellen Perkins of Westport, Sydna Ann (Robert) Mozingo of Greensburg and Marian Francis (Allen) Fox of Bremerton, Washington; his brothers, Harold (Etta) McCullough of Indianapolis, Joe (Juanita) McCullough of Greensburg and Arthur McCullough of Westport; his grandchildren, Josh Hempstead, Matt Hempstead, Andy Hempstead and Emily Hempstead all of Westport and his 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Larry Ross McCullough; his brothers, James, Donald, Vernon, John David and Ralph McCullough.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Baptist Church Building Fund or the Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp.
