ANNE MCCORMICK SULLIVAN age 24, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013.
She was born December 4, 1988, in Houston, to Jack and Mary Moore Sullivan.
Anne was a truly exceptional young woman. She graduated from Dulles High School where she was honored as athlete of the year. At age 17 she decided to become a firefighter and nothing was going to stop her. Her determination and perseverance to overcome obstacles to achieve that goal was remarkable. She bravely died in the line of duty doing what she was meant to do.
Anne was fiercely loyal, loving, compassionate, courageous, trustworthy, funny, stubborn, tenacious, kind, spiritual, athletic, and a true friend. She will be deeply and forever missed by the many people whose lives she so positively impacted.
She was the beloved and cherished daughter of Mary Moore Sullivan and Jack Sullivan. She is also survived by her brothers, William and Thomas; a sister, Kate; and grandmother, Shirley Moore Perry.
Anne's family believes her memory is best served by establishing a living legacy honoring Anne and all firefighters by working with the Houston Fire Department to create the Anne McCormick Sullivan Memorial Scholarship to encourage young women to enter the noble profession of firefighting. This fund will be established in the near future.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 6, 2013, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, with the Rev. Drew Wood, officiating.

Anne Sullivan was a gifted athlete filled with energy who came out of high school with a focus on being a firefighter. But about a month after graduating from the Houston Fire Department Academy, the 24-year-old was among four firefighters who died while searching for people they thought might be trapped in a blazing Houston motel and restaurant.
"She had a lot of energy and had her heart set at that," her father, Jack Sullivan, told The Associated Press on Saturday.
Sullivan's mother, Mary Sullivan, remembered when her then 17-year-old daughter first announced she wanted to become a firefighter. "Every mother's dream," she said with a half-smile and raised eyebrow. Those gathered responded with muted laughter.
Sullivan shared stories of her daughter's days as a probationary firefighter, including an incident in which she had to prepare deserts for the station house. Toward the end of her brief presentation, Sullivan's voice cracked.
"God bless my beautiful baby girl, Anne, and the three men who joined her," she said.
Also killed in the collapse during the Friday afternoon fire at the Southwest Inn were: Capt. Matthew Renaud, 35, who had been with department for 11½ years; Engineer Operator Robert Bebee, 41, who joined the department almost 12 years ago; and Firefighter Robert Garner, 29, who joined the department 2½ years ago.

Firefighter Sullivan, of Station 68, graduated from Houston Fire Department Academy this past April and was assigned to Fire Station 68.
"She was very passionate, very strong, very beautiful, and she was very dedicated to her career," Sullivan's friend and fellow firefighter Ryche Guerrero said. "She inspired me."
Houston's fire chief says the four firefighters who died fighting a motel fire today were looking for people they thought were still trapped in the burning building.
The five-alarm blaze began in the Bhojan Vegetarian Indian Cuisine restaurant, where "the majority of the fire was ... in the front," according to fire Capt. Ruy Lozano. It ended up spreading to the adjacent Southwest Inn, which is in the southwest part of Houston along the Southwest Freeway.
Terry Garrison says the firefighters "took the highest amount of risk possible" because they thought there were "civilians in the structure" when the roof collapsed. He says the firefighters "who were trying to save lives were lost."
It's the single worst loss of life for the 118-year-old Houston Fire Department.
