Charles Dennis Alvis, 81, of 4116 Elizabeth St., died at 2:45 p.m. Friday in a local hospital.

Mr. Alvis was born March 5, 1886, at Winnsboro, Texas and had lived in Texarkana since 1947. He was a member of Harmony Methodist Church, Winnsboro, and a retired air conditioning engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dosha Alvis, Texarkana; four sons, Hubert A. Alvis of Texarkana, Jack Y. Alvis, of Mesquite, Texas, Jon Wayne Alvis of Ft. Worth and Don P. Alvis of Camp Ja June, N.C.; Four daughters, Mrs. Virene Chaney, Mrs. Maudie Fowler and Mrs. Charlene Morrison, all of Texarkana, and Mrs. Wallace Marie Hughes of Pittsburg, Texas; nine grandchildren, one brother Lum Alvis of Winnsboro and two sisters, Mrs. Guy Maddox of Winnsboro and Mrs. Della Willingham of Godley, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at the Texarkana Funeral Home ChapeL with Dr. Lory Hildreth officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Lawrence Smith, Raymond Williams, Johnny Kesterson, George Thomas, David Badgett and Buster Field.

Honorary pallbearers were James Fuqua, O.M. Bradshaw, Dr. C.A. Smith, Dr. Richard Brunazzi, Dr. Charles Yarbrough, E.A. Kennedy, Harry Everett, E.J. Biagioli, Carlos Shell, and other employees of the Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company.
