Chesley Ballard, known as "Chess" married Charity Samples July 14, 1923 in Cocke County TN. By 1930 they had two sons, Buford age 6, and B.(Benny) Harold age 4½ and were living in Hamblen County, TN. In 1931 they had a daughter who was named Christine. When the Tennessee Valley Authority took their farm for the creation of Cherokee Lake, Chess and Charity Ballard moved to Niota, McMinn County, TN, bought another farm, and lived there until their death.
