"Roland Allen Black, the son of Everett and Clarice Clemmensen Black, was born October 8, 1936 in Audubon County, Iowa and died June 26, 1979 at Quail Valley, California at the age of 42 years.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Audubon Presbyterian Church and graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1954. He served with the U.S. Army as a parachutist from 1954 to 1956.

On February 12, 1956, he married Janice Johnson at the Exira Lutheran Church. Six children were born to this union. He farmed in Audubon County for a few years and then he worked in Colorado and California as a roofer.

Survivors include his wife, Janice, Exira; his children: Kim A. Brett, Colette, Scott, Lanette, and DeEtte Black, all of Exira; one granddaughter, Misty Jo Bell; his parents, Everett and Clarice Black, Audubon; 2 sisters: Mrs. Russell (Donna) Barger, Round Rock, Tex., and Mrs. Bob (Janet) Williams, Audubon.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Nancy Jensen and Rev. Douglas Kahl on July 2, 1979 at the Exira Lutheran Church. Interment was conducted with the assistance of Rev. Andrew Hofer at the Exira Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Armentrout, Larry Clark, Clark Griffith, William Groteluschen, Dean Hollister, and Frank Jorgensen.
