U.S. Senator. He attended Georgia State University and graduated University of Missouri 1961. Enlisting in the US Army, he served as a Captain at stations in Okinawa, Taiwan, and Korea, (1962-64). After his discharge, he was a businessman, a member, Georgia State Senate (1971-89), minority leader (1974-89), chairman of the southern steering committee for the George Bush presidential campaign on 1988 and director of the US Peace Corps, (1989-91). In 1992, he was elected as a Republican United States Senate, serving until his death due to cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 61.
