FRANKLIN DIRK DE VELDER
Franklin Dirk De Velder, 75, of O.C. passed away Monday evening Jan. 12 following an illness with cancer.
He was born March 23, 1872 at Pella, Iowa and spent his boyhood at Harrison, S.D. where his parents pioneered.
He was married to Aartje Ver Hoef on March 13, 1895 and they lived at Harrison one year before moving to Sioux County. They lived in the Middleburg and Boyden vicinities and the last 7 years in O.C.
Mrs. De Velder preceded him in death in 1943.
Surviving are 5 children, Tena, Mrs. W. H. Bomgaars of Sioux City; Delia, Mrs. Geo. Foreman of O.C.; Jno. W. De Velder of Chicago, Ill.; Rev. Walter De Velder missionary at Lungyen, China; & Rev. Marion De Velder of Holland, Michigan.
One son died in 1897 at the age of a year. There are 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He married Mrs. Martha Beukelman of Corsica, S.D. on Sept. 11, 1945 and she survives him with three step children: Mrs. Henry Tameris of Lafayette, Ind.; Harry Beukelman of Minneapolis, Minn,; and Earl Beukelman of Battle Creek, Mich.
Also surviving are three brothers and five sisters: J.W. De Velder, Henry De Velder, Ike De Velder, Mrs. John De Boer, Mrs. Henry Beukelman, Mrs. Peter Oliver, Mrs. James Rietveld, and Mrs. Cora Van Zee, all of Corsica, S.D. 2 brothers, Frank and Marion preceded him hi death.
Funeral services ere held Thursday afternoon in the First Ref. Church at O.C. where the departed was a member. Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment was made in the O.C. Cemetery.
