Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Sergeant in the United States Army in Company B, 7th United States Calvary. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on June 25, 1876 at the Little Big Horn River, Montana. His citation reads "Rescued the body of Lt. Hodgson from within the enemy's lines; brought up ammunition and encouraged the men in the most exposed positions under heavy fire." His original grave marker was a simple stone with his surname only. The military marker was erected on Memorial Day of 2008.
