Lorna Jene (Eshleman) King, 90, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning at Lancaster General Hospital. Lorna was the beloved wife of Richard S. King with whom she anticipated celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary on August 11th. Born in Washington Boro, Lorna was the daughter of the late Harvey S. Eshleman and Mary R. Herman Eshleman. Lorna graduated from Penn Manor, Class of 1941, and earned a B.S. in Secondary Education from Millersville University in 1945. During World War II, Lorna proudly served our country as a Corporal in the United States Women Marines. She will be buried with full military honors.

Lorna was always interested in other people and they all felt her interest in them. Lorna lived life to its fullest treasuring every moment. Lorna had a wide variety of interests and affiliations. First among them was her devotion to the activities at St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, past president of the Lutheran Church Women, and much more. She was very proud of her affiliations with the Women Marine veterans which included the Marine Corps League of PA, Women Veterans of PA, Central PA Blue Mountain Waves, and she was featured in the 2002 PCN Veterans television series. Recently in March, Lorna greatly enjoyed meeting with other women vets at the 1st Annual Pennsylvania Women Veterans Association Symposium in Gettysburg.

Professionally, Lorna specialized in human interest stories as a resident correspondent of Lancaster Newspapers, a writer for the Columbia News, contributor to various journals and the Lancaster Life Writers' Group. Lorna was a creative cake artist designing made-from-scratch three dimensional customized cakes in her home bake shop, "The Cakery."

Lorna was also active in the community. Along with her husband, Dick, Lorna delivered Millersville Meals-On-Wheels for more than twenty years. Lorna was very involved in the upkeep of Shank's Cemetery on Route 999, Lockard's Flower Shop, Baum Promotions (where she coordinated the food demonstrator program), and as a tour guide through the Amish Country with Root's Tours. She was a member of GFWC-Millersville Woman's Club, Millersville Lioness Club, and the Society Of Farm Women #4. Lorna was also a State Director of Farm Women Of PA, and taught cooking to the Mountville 4H and Girl Scouts, enjoyed Tole painting (PA Dutch designs on tin), and was an avid Phillies' fan.

In addition to her husband, Lorna is survived by her children: Marbeth (Walter) Szczerban, Wilmington, DE; Tracy (Adele) King, and Matthew (Trina) King, all of Mountville. Seven grandchildren: Christopher (Sarah) Szczerban; Michael Szczerban; Katie (Andrew) Zinn; Jared, Brooke, Joshua, and Colton King. Lorna is also survived by cousin, Marcia E. Herman Berg, and by other special family: Carol Houghton and Barbara Donovan. Lorna was preceded in death by daughter, Sally Jene King, in infancy in 1953 and son, Scott King, in 2007.
