Ruby Overton, 84, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 30, at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m.
Ruby was born April 30, 1929 to Noah and Cecil Green in Omaha, NE. She retired from CDS as a mail sorter after many years. Ruby was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 9662 and Post 738 where she was a past president as well as a past member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed singing, baseball, softball and was a bowling enthusiast. Above all Ruby will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruby is survived by her children, Gary Overton of Indianola, Larry (Jeanne) Overton of Pomona, MO, David (Lori) Overton of Des Moines, Bruce (Pip) Overton of Carlisle, Cheryl (Wayne) Herd of Des Moines, Pat (LaDonna) Overton of Carlisle and Mike Overton of Des Moines; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and sisters, Gerry Henry and Carolyn Paxton.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Tim Overton; her parents and five siblings, Nora, Bonnie, Pauline, Noah and Cecil.
