DAVENPORT — Celebration of Life services for Major Hubert T. "Fitz" Fitzsimmons, retired Chief of Detectives of the Davenport Police Department, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Major Fitzsimmons, 88, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Rev. Dr. Doris Nolan will officiate. His family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 26, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Major Fitzsimmons was born in 1925, in West Branch, Iowa to Clarence and Ruth L. Fitzsimmons. He married Elaine Harper on May 29, 1942, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2006. He served with the Army. For 36 years, Fitz was a police officer with the Davenport Police Department, retiring on June 29, 1984. His memberships included the Masons, Elks, American Legion, University of Iowa Alumni, Iowa I Club, and the Herbert Hoover Museum. He was a huge Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin Fitzsimmons of Davenport, and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert William Fitzsimmons.
