On July 3, 1937, she married Frank William Kent of Boyne City, they were married for 59 years until his death in 1997. They spent their entire married life and raised their family in the Boyne City area. Laura enjoyed her flowers, gardening and songbirds. She and Frank both loved to explore around Michigan, all their children have fond memories of Sunday "ride day." They also enjoyed travel to various parts of the United States, especially in their retirement years.
Laura is survived by six daughters, Patricia Johnson of Cheboygan, Sandra Johnson of Owasso, Okla., Julia (Harry) Caldecott of Horton Bay, Karen (Ray) Guzniczak of Boyne City, Theresa (Ron) Hamill of Bentley, Mich., and Kathy (Bill) Steepe of Central Lake; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister, Ellen Umler of Charlevoix; and two sisters-in-law, Eloise Kent and Anna Kent both of Boyne City.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Jones of Omaha, Neb., Louis Jones and George Jones both of Walloon Lake; sister, Marion Jones of Walloon Lake; sons-in-law, Ernie Johnson and Andrew Johnson; grandson, Cory Stafford; two brothers-in-law, Lester Umler and Dale Kent.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the Horton Bay United Methodist Church with pastors Kathy and Dave Cadarette officiating. Burial will take place at Evangeline Township Cemetery.
