Sam Perkins, 84, of Hope, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

A Navy veteran, he was retired from Cummins Inc. after 33 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and building his own homes and he

loved spending time with his family.

The funeral will be Friday at 11a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with John Perkins Jr. officiating. Calling will be Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.

Memorial contributions may be donated to the Hydrocephalus Association.

Born November 25, 1928, in Ripley County, Mr. Perkins was the son of John Samuel Perkins and Alice Adams Hauk. He married Pauline Burton December 29, 1950, and she survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Shelley (Milo) Tichenor of Westport and Sheila (Mike) Moore of North Vernon; sons, John (Brenda) Perkins of Newbern, Mark (Yolanda) Perkins of Memphis, TN, and Jay Perkins of Newbern; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Hannah Gerries of Elizabethtown and Ollie Brunner of Osgood.

Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Gay Perkins and Naomi Adams; a son, Matthew Dale Perkins; and a grandson, Andrew Hooker.
