John Clarke married twice: to his first cousin, Mary "Polly" Casey in 1814. They had 8 children and she died in 1829. Then he married Mary Bingaman in 1830 and had 12 more children with her.
They lived in Jefferson County IL until 1841 when they moved to Missouri. John's father died while visiting with him in Missouri in 1841. In 1850 he was in Oregon Co, Mo, but then moved to Shannon Co, Mo where he was in 1860. He went back to Illinois where he died in 1862.
There were several Illinois people who left southern Missouri and went back to Illinois when the Civil War broke out. This is most likely why John went back to Illinois about 1862. It would have been uncomfortable and even dangerous for a Union man in that area.
