BUTLER.—Mr. Charles J. Butler died at his home in Lamoni on Wednesday evening, January 27, 1909, at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 4 days. He was born in Steuben county, New York: moved to Sandwich, Illinois, when twenty years old (1854), and went into the army in 1963, serving till 1865. After that, he was a steward on a lake steamer until 1867.
The family moved to Galien, Michigan, in 1866, and there he and Miss Frances M. White were united in marriage July 4, 1867.
ln April 1886, they came to Lamoni to live, and here he followed his trade as a bricklayer and plasterer until June 1907, when his health suddenly gave way. After that, he gradually failed, especially the last eighteen days.
His wife, daughter (Mrs. Hattie Butler) and grandchildren mourn their great Ioss.
He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Christ in 1882 by Elder W. W. Blair.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at the R.L.D.S. church, Elder H. A. Stebbins preaching the sermon, assisted by Elders Columbus Scott and Asa S. Cochran. This was the request he had made.
