She was a life resident of Durham where she graduated from Bragtown High School and was a lifetime member of Duke's Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Ted R. Fowler, who died in 1990; and her two brothers, Eugene and Belvin Thompson. Emily loved her church, family and friends.
Surviving are: her son, Ted W. Fowler and his wife, Linda of Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Jonathan A. Fowler and Melanie Toth; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Toth.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St., Durham. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Duke's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Durham. The Rev. Julia Alliger will officiate.
