Mrs. Ruth H. De Jong, age 78, of Orange City, died Thursday, June 18, 1992 at Marian Health Center in Sioux City after a sudden illness.

Ruth was born May 18, 1914 at Ocheyedan, the daughter of Mike and Margaret (Van Zwol) Dykstra. Her childhood was spent in South Dakota.

On March 6, 1936 she married Thomas I. De Jong at Orange City. He died August 17, 1984.

Mrs. De Jong lived most of her life in the surrounding area, moving to Orange City in 1961. She was active in various community activities and was a member of the First Reformed Church. Her life was devoted to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her son Terry and his wife Glenda of Rockville, Md.; two daughters, Judie and her husband John Mouw of Carbondale, Ill., and Pat and her husband Rod Muilenburg of Stonn Lake; 11 grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and brother, the Rev. Kenneth Dykstra of Pella.

Memorials are being directed to the Orange City Hospice. Funeral services were held Monday, June22 at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
