Thomas Jerome Gracher was born October 29, 1932 in East Detroit (now: East Pointe). Tom had lived in Warren, Mt. Clemens and Romeo before moving to Metamora.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was married to Helga B. Behnke on June 4, 1955 in Berlin, Germany.
Thomas studied at Lawrence Tech in Detroit. He had been employed by General Motors as a Production Engineer where he traveled all over the United States to General Motors plants for plant production design. Tom retired from GM after 30 years in 1987. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City, where he sang in the choir, and the East Detroit V. F.W. Post #6782.
Surviving are his wife, Helga Gracher of Metamora; his daughter, Cynthia (Wade) Olsen of Cocoa, Florida; his son, Michael Gracher of Metamora; grandchildren, Jaime
(Roy) Stone II and Scott (Miranda) Barbash;
great-grandchildren, Roy Stone III, Millenna Stone, Bradley Barbash, Zachary Barbash, and Nicholas Forninash.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Tebo and Winifred Rowley; and by two brothers, Arthur Gracher Jr. and Raymond Gracher.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Imlay City. Fr. Paul Ward will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Imlay City.
Friends may call at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29.
On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., Rosary will be recited at the funeral home.
