Teacher, Newspaper Columnist and Radio Personality. He was considered the first black disc jockey in the south. On October 25, 1948 Williams signed on the air with station WDIA in Memphis, Tennessee playing "Stompin' at the Savoy." He hosted the radio program "Tan Town Jamboree" at the station until a stroke would force his retirement in the 1970's. A multi-talanted man, he was a columnist for the Tri-State Defender prior to his career in broadcasting and emceed shows at the famous Palace Theatre on Beale Street in Memphis.
