Sarah was born on May 27, 1924 in Rutherford County, N.C. to the late Marion Buckner and Mattie Bradburn Buckner.
She worked as a caregiver in many fields of healthcare industry and was known for her compassionate and loving attention to the needs of others. She attended the Little White Country Church and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Buckner, Howard Buckner and Kirmeth Buckner.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, John A. McFarland; one son, David McFarland and wife, Edith, of Forest City; a niece, Cathy Jean Dugger and husband,Ronald "Ron", of Athens, Alabama and grandson, Danny McFarland and wife, Brenda, of Rutherfordton, (both Cathy and Danny were raised by Sarah and were considered to be a son and daughter). She is also survived by one sister, Emma Irene Buckner, of Rutherfordton; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Cash of Bryson City, Tn. and Rachel Padgett of Forest City; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces,nephews and cousins.
