Veteran 'Y Custodian,70, Stricken

Charles A. Delaney 70 of Calvert St died of a heart attack at 4:30 p.m. yesterday in the YMCA where-he had been custodian for 47 years.

Mr. Delaney was born in Oneida on April 26, 1888, son of Patrick Henry and Margaret Ann Fitzgerald Delaney, and came to Rome in 1908.

In November of 1911 became employed by YMCA and had been there since, " the "Y" always coming first with him.

He and the former Marguerite Golden of Rome were married in 1909.

His wife survives with six sons, Charles P. H. of Barneveld, Daniel G. of Remsen, Frederick N. of Lake Delta and Thomas H., Gordon M. and Jack L. of Rome; four daughters, Mrs. John Wagner of Lake Delta, Mrs. Eugene Plato of Cleveland, Mrs. Frank Voci of Newburgh and Mrs. Edward Burke of Rome; two brothers, Thomas H. of Oneida and Edward L. of Jocksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Hall of Holmes Rd., Rome; 37 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Waldo Wiggins Prince Home for Funerals and a half-hour later in St. Mary's Church, of which he was a communicant. Friends may call at the funeral home today and tomorrow. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. --
