Born in Michigan to David Carter and Nannie Fells.
Amy lived at the Wood County Infirmary as an orphaned youth from age 13 onward.
There was "something wrong with her pelvic bones" and as a result she could barely walk. With the help of the Infirmary matron her health improved and by the time she left the infirmary she could walk fine.
Amy married the Wood County Infirmary Superintendent's son Alfred Farmer July 25, 1892. They had 3 children: Ester Henry, Ted. and Gertrude.

Her obituary in the Bowling Green Sentinel Tribune on April 9, 1958.
Mrs. Alfred Farmer (Amy Carter), 86, died at 5:30 am today in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Helberg, 518 W. Wooster St., with whom she had lived the last six years. She had been an invalid three years.
A resident of Bowling Green for 75 years, she was born in Au Sable, Mich., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Carter. She came to Bowling Green at the age of 11 and has lived here ever since. She was married July 24, 1892 to Mr. Farmer, a Wood County Sheriff's deputy for 22 years. Nr. Farmer, who died in 1954was an expert accountant, also had worked in the Wood County recorder's, Clerk of courts, auditor's and treasurer's offices throughout his life excerpt during World War I when he was employed in the bank at Custar.
Mrs. Farmer was a member of the First Christian Church and Wiley Relief Corps.
Surviving with Mrs. Helberg are another daughter, Mrs. Esther Henry of Dearborn Mich: one son, Ted of Toledo: 14 grandchildren, 45 great- grandchildren, and eight great-great- grandchildren: one brother Harry Carter of Mt. Holly, N.J.: and a sister, Mrs. Florence Hankins of Ft. Myers, Fla.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 pm int he Deck Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may cal at the funeral home Friday afternoon and evening.
