BENSON, Howard C. of Genesee Twp, age 80, died in his home peacefully surrounded by his family October 16, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Friday, October 22, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Rd, Flint; Rev. Fr. George Puthenpeedika celebrant. Burial, with military honors under the auspices of Davison American Legion Post # 267, will follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 pm Wednesday and Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd, Davison. A Rosary will be prayed 7 pm Thursday, followed by a Memorial Service conducted by the Davison Knights of Columbus 4th Degree #0523. On Friday, there will be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Howard was born in Black River, MI on May 28, 1930, the son of Albert and Eva Benson. He proudly served his country with the U. S. Army for three years. He was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church for 40 years working Bingos and ushering. Howard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Davison for 25 years. He achieved 3rd and 4th Degree and formerly served as Commander. In addition, he was a member of the Davison American Legion Post # 267 for 16 years. Howard retired in 1983 from Buick-Motor Division after 30 years of service. After retiring, he drove cars for Bisbee and Best Car for 25 years. Howard enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and especially, Casinos! He was a faithful donor to the American Red Cross and had donated 10 gallons of blood. Howard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane; son, Raymond and wife Linda of Otter Lake; daughter, Teresa Ledger and husband Phil of Burton; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Gappa of Alpena; Vern Travis of Mikado and Gloria Sanford of Westland. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Albert Benson; son, Albert; sisters, Rose and Carol; brother, Chester.
