A memorial will take place at Nyssa Hilltop Cemetery at 1 p.m. June 5, 2013. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Josh Brennan Hall, 105 Main Street, Nyssa, OR 97913, to celebrate Jay's life to allow everyone time to visit, share their memories, thoughts and prayers with Jay's family and friends.
Jay was born in Sedro Wooley, Washington on October 28, 1962. He was two years old when his family moved to Oregon, settling in Nyssa, Oregon. Jay grew up on the family farm and eventually purchased that same property where he spent his childhood and has lived there his entire life.
He graduated from Nyssa High School in 1980 and continued on with his work at the Amalgamated Sugar Company working and advancing to the position of Assistant Agriculture Repair Foreman. Jay followed in his father's footsteps as a dedicated employee for the Amalgamated Sugar Company for more than 32 years.
Jay was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He often enjoyed these times with his daughters, friends and family. He was a very family oriented father & grandfather with two beautiful girls and three wonderful grandchildren who made him a "big kid" and filled his life with great joy.
Jay was married in 1984 and later divorced in 1994 from Mary Emma Leos (Clark).
Jay leaves behind his Mother, Glenda Gayle Barnes; his two sisters, Connie M. Hanson and Sharon A. Patrick; his two children and their families, Ashley Marie Hicks and her husband, Chance Jarred Hicks. Stephanie Ann Barnes and her partner, Miguel Gallegos. Jay also leaves behind his three grandchildren Brogan M. Hicks, Miguel A. Gallegos and Zoee M. Gallegos; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.
Jay is preceded in death by his father, Carl Clayton Barnes (March 24, 1932 -April 6, 2007): his Grandparents; A.C & Marvene Barnes: Keith & Laura Moss.
