Biography written by LJ using information included in the autobiography of his wife, Carma Egbert Mansfield Dinwiddie and historical record available in the FamilySeach web site.

Jerry was born the 15th of March 1917 in Logan Utah to Lorenzo George Mansfield and Emma Lillie Naylor Mansfield. He was the second child of seven.
Jerry met his future wife, Carma Egbert, in 1937 when he traveled to Turner with his friend, Woodrow Trappet to visit his sister, Bonnie Egbert, who was Carma's sister-in-law. When the men arrived, Jerry was asked to help with the milking while the others took Carma's sister, Esther, to the hospital. Agreeing to help, Jerry found Carma in the barn. Carma related the meeting and their early history as follows.
"When he came into the barn, it was me he had to help. The cow was standing on my foot. The more I pushed the cow, the harder she would lean on me. Gade (Jerry) stood and laughed at me. I picked up the milk stool and threw it at him. Thank the Lord, he stepped aside and it missed him!
He introduced himself and told me why he was there. We proceeded to do the milking and he asked me for a date. The next night we went to a dance in Grace at a place called The Ballroom Between The Rocks. It was a beautiful moonlight night and Gad was a great dancer.
He didn't stay because he said he had a feeling that something was wrong. He left the next day for Ogden. When he got to the house, Mrs. Kilfoyle told him that his mother, stepfather and brother had been in a car accident. His eighteen year old brother, Clair, remained unconscious for two weeks before he passed away.
After his brother's funeral, Gad came back and worked on the pipe line. His cousin Dewey was dating Ida Fowler so the four of us went together all that summer. We used Uncle Jack's ton truck.
Gade went back to Ogden in the fall and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). His group helped build the road around Farmington Peak and also built Pineview Reservoir."
"One day I went to Ogden with Arnold and Bonnie to inquire about beauty school When I came out of Arden's clothing store, I ran into Gade (known then as Jerry). He put his arms around me and kissed me. His fiancé saw it, so when he met her, she threw his ring at him. Jerry went home with us and we started dating again.
One day he asked Mom if I could go to Ogden with him and she said yes. Jerry asked me to marry him the next day and I said yes. We were married by Mayor Perry on the 24th of June 1938. "
Carma and Jerry along with their friends, Lois and Frank, returned to Turner. The four of them lived in a tent on Carma's Uncle Jacks place while them men worked hauling hay.
Jerry and Carma moved to Ogden when Jerry began working got the Work Projects Administration (WPA) earning $48 per month. He later was promoted to timekeeper and earned $72 per month. "We were rich" stated Carma.
Jerry and Carma moved to an apartment at 227 ½ 24th St. in Ogden. Carma stated "That is where our son Ren was born on 20th March 1939. Dr. Wendell Noel delivered him at home. He was so small that you could have made a diaper for him out of a man's handkerchief. "
Jerry and Carma worked at the American Pack for a while. " Jerry then went to work at the Arsenal. He was searched on day and they found a piece of a match in his pocket so he was fired. He was working with explosives. He then went to work for the A.G. Section as a truck driver."
"Jerry was drafted into the Army and left the 13th of December 1944. He was sent to little Rock, Arkansas for hi boot training." Jerry served in the 2nd World War in the South Pacific.
"Jerry came home in August of 1946 and went to work again at the A.G. Section. I had bought Marion's little shack for $900 at 2530 C Ave. We finished the basement and lived in it for a few years. Later we went on top with a two bedroom house, back porch and garage. In 1955, we bought a home at 326 7th St. We sold this home and bought at 236 12th St. In 1972 Smith's Food King bought us out and we bought our present home at 2367 D Avenue."
"In 1966 Jerry retired after twenty-five years at Second Street and after having surgery on his feet and one hand." After retiring, Jerry and Carma began to travel. They started to go to Quartzsite, Arizona for the winters and made many friends there.
"Jerry was very musical. He played guitar, harmonica and accordion." He was always willing to entertain family or friend with his music. While on the WPA project, Jerry reconnected with his friend Lee Stathos who became his lifelong friend. Lee married Carma's sister, Ione. The two couples were both family and friends. Jerry and Lee would keep the family laughing whenever they were in attendance at family functions.

Jerry passed away on December 11, 1984.
