Catherine "Kay" Elizabeth RASMUSSEN, a resident of Kirkland since 1946, passed away on October 13, 2003 at Crista in Shoreline. She was born on November 21, 1923 in Dearth, PA. and was a 1941 graduate of Uniontown Senior High School in Uniontown, PA. After graduation she was employed by Markle, Combs and Moore Insurance Company in Uniontown. In 1942 she began working for the United States Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. In 1945 she moved to Alhambra, CA. and worked for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in Los Angeles.

She met her husband, Otto S. Rasmussen in Hollywood, CA. They were married on June 15, 1946 at Camp Pendleton, CA. where he was stationed with the United States Marines. She came to Kirkland in July, 1946 where her husband had lived prior to entering the Marines. Mrs. Rasmussen was then employed by General Petroleum Corporation of Mobil Oil in Seattle and by the Lake Washington School District in Kirkland as Secretary. She was a member of the Dr. H.H. Sherwood Guild of Children's Hospital and Medical Center and Holy Family Church.

Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, two sisters and three brothers, she is survived by daughters Catherine of Cottonwood, Arizona, Margaret Grein and husband David of Kirkland, son Michael and wife Linda of Snohomish; granddaughters Lindsay and Mia Rasmussen, and Katy Grein; sisters Martha Phillips of Ellicott City, Maryland and Agnes Cunningham of New Oxford, Pennsylvania; brothers John J. Phillips of Salem, Oregon, and Thomas A. Phillips of South Windsor, Connecticut, and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27 at Holy Family Church, Kirkland. A reception will follow at Woodmark Hotel Carillon Point in Kirkland. Private Interment at Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
