Martha was the daughter of David McKinley & Sarah Gray. She married Apr 3, 1806 in Mercer Co., PA, to James Rose, son of Andrew Rose & Hannah Chapman. (Martha's brother James Stevenson McKinley had married Aug 20, 1804, to her husband's sister, Mary "Polly" Rose. James & Polly were the grandparents of President William McKinley.)

James Rose was a farmer and a soldier in the War of 1812 (along with four of his brothers). At least ten of James' grandsons served in the Civil War---on the winning side!
