Pfc. Clifford E. Deloria, who had been previously reported by the War department as missing in action on January 23, 1945, was reported killed in action in Nennig, Germany, January 23, 1945, according to a telegram received by his wife from the War Department.

Mrs. Deloria, the former Alice Harrington, received the first telegram concerning her husband about ten weeks prior and hoped, as did all her friends and neighbors, that her husband would later be found well and safe though a prisoner of war, and second telegram ended that hope. Pfc. Deloria who was inducted December 9, 1942, left for overseas August 5, 1944. His wife last saw him in New York on August 1st, 1944.

Born in Au Sable Forks, New York, March 2, 1907, Pfc. Deloria was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Deloria. He received his early education in the schools there and also attended the local high school. At the time he was drafted, he was president of the Au Sable Valley Sportsmen's Association. He was a member of Au Sable Forks Council, Knights of Columbus.

He was a shipping clerk in the employ of the J. & J. Rogers Company in Au Sable Forks, and worked for that firm steadily for 18 years until the time of his induction. Clifford E. Deloria will be remembered by local sportsmen for his many fine qualities as a hunter and fisherman, friend and neighbor.

Pfc. Deloria was awarded the Infantry Combat badge while serving in General Simpson's Ninth Army in October, 1944; later he was transferred to the Third Army under General Patton and saw much action in both France and Germany. A few months after his induction he won the expert rifleman's medal and many times while in combat distinguished himself.

Besides his wife, he was survived by his brother, Francis Deloria of Plattsburgh, New York, and one sister, Mrs. Bertrand Garso of Au Sable Forks village.
