She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and educator.
Vera was born on June 2, 1913, at her parents home near Manito, Ill., the daughter of Ray V. and Myrtle Eidman Talbott. She married Melvin Classen on May 1, 1937. She later married Clarence Krughoff on March 20, 1976. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1983.
Vera graduated from Manito High School in 1930, attended Normal State College and received her bachelor of education degree in 1957 from Bradley University. Vera was an elementary school teacher in the Manito and San Jose areas for 32 years and also coached hundreds of students in drama. She was a faithful member of San Jose United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for 18 years. She was a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association, San Jose Woman's Club and Literary Group, San Jose Homemakers Extension, a volunteer for Lincoln Hospital Auxiliary and a 75 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Siegrist and husband Jay; grandchildren, Jeff and wife, Macaria, Julie Myers and husband, Gene and Mary Springer and husband, Doug; great-grandchildren Jay, Chad, Carly, Mason and Savanna Siegrist, Austin, Luke, and Rachel Myers, Jacqueline, Katherine and Joseph Springer; sister Mildred Azbell and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Louis Talbott and Clifford Talbott.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the San Jose United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, also at the church. The Rev. Stephen King will officiate. A private family burial will take place at the Greenhill Cemetery, in San Jose.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chaddock, which is a ministry for children recovering from severe child abuse and neglect, 205 South 24th Street Quincy, IL 62301.
Hurley Funeral Home, in San Jose, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
