Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Basham, Mrs. Hubert Greenwood, of this city; Mr and Mrs. Arba C Carman of Stephensport returned Friday from Greenfield, Illinois., where they attended the funeral of Mr. Basham's brother, Hobert Basham. From a sudden heart attack, Mr Basham died at his home in Greenfield at 6 o'clock Monday morning July 27. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, July 30 at the Gillman Funeral home in Greenfield. The Rev. Frank Marston officiated, and 2 favorite hymns "Higher Ground" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were rendered. Interment in the Diamond Grove cemetery, Jacksonville. Mr Basham had lived in Illinois for some 30 years. There he married Miss Essie Lee Stapleton in 1917 who passed away some years ago. He is survived by an only daughter, Mrs. Edward Cruzan, 2 grandchildren, Gary Lee and Mary Louise Cruzan of Greenfield; father Thomas J Basham of Cloverport who was unable to attend the funeral; brother, Lonnie Basham; 3 sisters, Mrs Greenwood of this city, Mrs. Carman, Stephensport and Mrs Silas Hawkins of Louisville. Born at Stephensport, March 7, 1897, Mr. Basham was the eldest child of Thomas J Basham and the late Bettie Hawkins Basham. He was reared in the Hites Run community and when a young man went to Illinois to work with relatives there. He never returned to Kentucky as a place of residence, but occasionally visited here with member of the family. He was a good farmer and a man of pleasant manner. At the age of 16 years he became a member of Hites Run Baptist Church.
