His parents were Daniel Rood(1720-) & his wife Ruth White(1726-1804) of Sheffield & Hadley, Massachusetts. Ruth White Rood parents were John White & his wife Martha Church. Had a brother named Daniel Rood, also born 1756 that may have been Jonathan's twin?

Jonathan Rood was a Revolutionary War Veteran & is buried in the First Cemetery in Rushford, NY He was one of nine privates listed on the Payroll of Lieutenant Jeremiah Chapin's detachment & in Colonel Elisha Porter's Hampshire County regiment. He and others enlisted on 7/9/1777 & were discharged 8/12/1777, serving one month & nine days.The detachment marched near Fort Edward by going towards Albany for the alarm on Fort Ticonderoga. Paid 2 pounds, 2 shillings & 8 pence. The one pound & 6 shillings were for 39 days of service.

Jonathan's gravestone is in poor condition & had to chalk it to get the information off it & to photograph it.

Possible links to his family might be there are 3 ROOD's in the Farmersville Center Cemetery.

* also Jonathan's mother Ruth White's 1st husband & father to Jonathan Rood died & she married for the 2nd time to Jacob Taylor of South Hadley, Massachusetts. Which means that the Taylor's & Rood's are related !!!

His parents were Daniel Rood (b. about 1730-d. bet. 1757-1763) & his wife Ruth White (b. about 1730-32 Hadley, Massachusetts, she died 1804 Granby, Massachusetts.

Jonathan Rood served in the Revolutionary war as follows.

Jonathan was one of nine privates listed on the payroll of Lieutenant Jeremiah Chapin's detachment, and in Colonel Elisha Porter's (Hampshire County) regiment. He and the others enlisted on July 9, 1777 and were discharged August 12, 1777, serving for one month and nine days. (This includes 100 miles travel home). The detachment marched "by way of Allbony near Fort Edward on the alarm at Tyconderoga." They were each paid two pounds, two shillings and eight pence. One pound, six shillings were for the thirty nine days service, the balance for travel home. Besides Lieutenant Jeremiah Chapin there were Jeremiah Robinson, Sergeant, and Privates Luther Granger, Titus Bartlet, Jonathan Rood, Samuel Hendrick, Nathan Smith, Tered Green, Samuel Hoak, Benony Jones and Israel Clark.

Jonathan's gravestone has deteriorated to almost unreadable condition.

Jonathan's mother Ruth White's 1st husband (Daniel Rood) & father to Jonathan Rood died & she married Nov. 1764 to Jacob Taylor of Granby, Massachusetts. Which means that the Jacob Taylor line of Rushford, New York and Granby, Massachusetts and the descendants of Daniel Rood are related.
