Robert William Atkinson, 87, of Raleigh went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 2013. Bill was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late Robert William and Helen Whiteside Atkinson. Bill was a member of the Air Raid Precautions in Belfast during World War II.
Bill was a Professional Mechanical engineer and travelled the world directing Power Plant and Mining/Metallurgical Projects. After moving to Raleigh, Bill manages construction of houses and designed industrial factories for the John Brown Engineering Company in West Virginia. He became director of Prison Ministry at North Ridge Bible Chapel, taught adult Bible study and Bible messages at Springmoor and at Litchford Falls Health and Rehab.
Bill is survived by: his loving wife, Audrey Mae Atkinson; sons, Paul M. Atkinson (Dolly), of Austin, TX, William J. Atkinson (Sandy), of Manteo, NC, and Mark G. Atkinson (Bobbi), of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, Heather Anne Atkinson, Rob Atkinson, Caroline Atkinson, and Lauren Jackson; and his brother, Dr. Ronald J. Atkinson.
He was predeceased by his brother and sisters, Helen Stewart, Anne Atkinson, and Jack Atkinson.
In lieu of flowers, donations were suggested for North Carolina Prison Ministry at North Ridge Bible Chapel.
