Born in England, Elizabeth Avery arrived in the United States with her family on Sep 20, 1853 and was naturalized in 1868. She became a doctor of homeopathic medicine, practicing in Chicago and later in Lawrence, Kansas. She married merchant Frederick Eggert on September 1, 1873 in Lawrence. In about 1876 they moved to Albany Oregon; eventually to Portland. Elizabeth and Frederick also built a home and one of the first fruit orchards in Hood River, Oregon, naming the place Eggermont. Elizabeth Avery Eggert was also a businesswoman, women's suffrage activist, and philanthropist. Although Elizabeth and Frederick had no children of their own, Elizabeth was very protective of and helpful to her extended family. Elizabeth Avery Eggert died November 20, 1935.
