CHARLOTTE - Ollie Mattie Lizzie Wood, of 3410 Spring Terrace Lane, age 80, passed on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born Jan. 2, 1930, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Allen and the late Celessie Martin Allen. A graduate of R.A. Clement High School in Cleveland, she retired as a domestic worker.
Originally a member of Erwin Temple CME Church, in 1989 she moved her membership to New Shepherd Baptist Church in Cooleemee, where she was a Mother of the Church, Kitchen Committee, Pastors Aide and a faithful member to her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lewis Wood; son Dr. Tommy Wood; sisters Bernice Chunn, Sarah Jackson, Mary Allen; brothers Henry Allen, Charlie Allen; grandson Aaron Shawn Wood; and great-grandchild Khaylia Lamis Wood.
Survivors include son Mr. Timothy Wood; daughters Ms. Barbara Wood of the home, Mrs. Celeste Wood-Haile of Mocksville, Mrs. Yvonne(Phillip) Fisher of Advance and Mrs. Norma Mattox of Statesville; sisters and brothers Louise Payne, Gary (Bonnie) Allen, Derry (Jean) Allen, all of Salisbury, William (Mary) Allen of Mocksville, and Georgia (John) Graham of Greensboro; aunt Lizzie Mayfield of Cooleemee; daughter-in-law: Sandra Wood of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Friday at New Shepherd Baptist Church, Cooleemee. The remainder of the time the family will be at the home on 3410 Spring Terrace Lane in Charlotte.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday New Shepherd Baptist Church, Cooleemee. Rev. Frances Ellis will officiate and Rev. Melvin Kesler serve as Eulogist.
