"The Greenville News" Greenville, South Carolina Sunday, July 11, 1954 Page 4 MR. SPANN OF ANDERSON DIES ANDERSON July 10 - H. A. (Jack) Spann, 49, principal of North Fant School for several years, died Saturday at 9 a.m. in Columbia after an illness of several months.
Mr. Spann had been employed in the Anderson City Schools for 25 years, during which time he taught at Boys High School prior to becoming principal at Fant. He was graduated from Duke University, Durham, N. C., and received his master of arts degree at the University of South Carolina. He taught at Riverside Military Academy before coming to Anderson.
Mr. Spann was born in Sumter, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Y Spann. He was an active member of Anderson First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Begg Ligon Spann; two sons, H. A. Spann, Jr., and Henry Smith Spann, both of the home, and one sister, Miss Reba Spann, Sumter.
Funeral services will be conducted at the McDougald Funeral Home Sunday at 5 p.m. by the Rev. Carl R. Pritchett. Burial will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
Pallbearers wwill be Martin P. Beckman, Marshall Fant, Jr., Dr. E. A. Murray, Carl Nelson, J. P. Haynie, C. F. Reams, James Klacky and J. D. Nelson.
Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of First Presbyterian Church and Dr. Mark Hawthorn, George C. Welch and Avery Hunt.
The body is at the funeral home.
