Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd. in Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
He was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Thomson, Ill., the son of Ed and Elizabeth Hunter Franks. He married Mary Jean Edmonds Dec. 6, 1943, in Mt. Carroll, Ill. She preceded him in death Oct. 4, 1984.
He worked at Moline Iron Works as an iron molder and retired 15 years ago from the Rock Island Arsenal where he had been employed for 30 years.
He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of Iron Workers Union where he had been an officer. He was active in the East End Club and former member of the Friend's Circle, Svithiod and Vikings. He enjoyed repairing small motors for family and friends.
Survivors (and spouses) include a daughter-in-law, Joyce Y. Franks, Moline; grandchildren, Edward A. Franks, Thomas E. (Dorinda) Franks, and Lorie (Jeffrey) Talley, all of Moline; great-grandchildren, Amy Thorpe (Timothy), Milan, Adam Talley, Steffen Franks and Tyler Franks, all of Moline; sisters, Mildred Fernald (Donald), Moline, Esther Meier, Cedarville, Ill., and Florence Libberton (Richard), Nora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Clarence and Howard; and his son, Edward L. Franks on Dec. 12, 1997.
