The funeral of Hugh C. Fyans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fyans of Au Sable Forks, New York, who succumbed to an attack of pneumonia at Camp Gordon, Georgia, on Wednesday evening, January 16, 1918, was held at the church of the Holy Name in Au Sable Forks, on Wednesday morning, January 23, 1918.

The remains were received in Au Sable Forks on Monday afternoon and arrangements perfected for the final obsequies. Dozens were turned away from the church owing to lack of room, the attendance at the ceremony being the largest of any funeral held here in years, showing to some extent the esteem in which this young man was held by the entire community.

Rev. Wm. A. O'Connor, pastor of the church, officiated and extended to the bereaved family the most heartfelt sympathy in this hour of deep affliction. The bearers were six of the young friends of the deceased: Russell Coughlin, William Kennedy, Thomas Sullivan, Raymond Horrigan, Moses Bombard and Merryman Bosley.

A military guard of honor from the military Post at Plattsburgh, New York was present upon the request of the government, the interment in Holy Name cemetery being with full military honors.

The members of the escort were Joseph Anderson, R. J. Fenny, A. J. Tuchschmidt, Robert West, Joseph Murray, Lawrence Burns, Emmett H. Pugh.

The young man was survived by his parents, three brothers, Patrick and Leo of Au Sable Forks, and Bart of Albany, New York, seven sisters, Mrs. Fred Miller, Mrs. Moses Bombard, Mary, Katherine, Bridget, Ella and Margaret and a host of other relatives and friends.
